Parent Meetings

“PEN enables parents and teachers to better understand the others' perspectives and work—together—in the best interests of the child. PEN offers an unparalleled collection of meetings, lectures and seminars that are receiving national attention.”

EdRev 2017 will take place Saturday April 22nd!

Recognizing that parents with students with learning and attention differences sometimes deal with stigma and experience isolation, Parents Education Network (PEN) holds general parent meetings in the Fall and Spring to connect parents on the same path. These gatherings are an opportunity for parents to build community, share resources, participate in discussions and learn strategies to support themselves and to support their student’s success in school and beyond the classroom.

Typically parents meetings have a general topic that shapes the conversations that takes place; recent topics have included The Social Emotional Aspects of Being Different and Making the Transition to Summer. Parents are also encouraged to bring whatever concerns or issues that are most important in their lives as they continue their work as advocates for their student.

Parent meetings are first and foremost affinity spaces for parents with students with learning and attention differences. They are not spaces to advertise professional services. Parents who work as professionals in the field of support for learning and attention differences are asked to only participate as parents during these meetings.

Discussion are sometimes facilitated in collaboration with long time PEN partner the Pathways Institute.
